“Fancy a boat trip and a few beers?”
It was my friend Rob, of the redoubtable Homage to BCN blog, asking a stupid question. Of course I did. And so we met at Barnabier in Barcelona’s Port Olimpic, to be joined by other friends old and new, including Ben Holbrook (who has written a better account than you’ll find here on his Barcelona travel blog Driftwood Journals), property designer and Mojito-maker extraordinaire Mike Davis, and Barcelona Miniguide entrepreneur Michael Mueller.
We were there to meet Captain Noah Woodman, an ex-parachutist and experienced skipper who sails the beautiful motor yacht Minerva out of Barcelona. He’s pals with Rob and had kindly agreed to take us all out.
The sun sank. Cigars were smoked. Beers were sipped. Cocktails were shaken. Jokes were told. Fish were, well, not caught but you can’t have everything. Noah was the safest pair of hands imaginable, making sure we were all relaxed but also fully aware of what to do at all times.
This isn’t a food post: it’s a shameless free plug for Noah’s services. The almost-10m, 200bhp motor yacht Minerva is a delight, zipping across the Mediterranean at speeds of up to 23 knots. There’s room for up to 9 people in comfort. You can fish, sunbathe, swim or just enjoy the sun setting over the sea as you cruise past the port, the W Hotel, the Hotel Arts and other local landmarks. There’s a fridge, a compact galley and everything you need to have fun. Bring some good drinks, invite some good company (or failing that, a food writer), and enjoy.
Prices start at €40 per person for a two-hour trip. Full day sightseeing and fishing trips are also available.
